Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer.com. And today we are looking at our RetraxPRO XR hard tonneau cover here on our 2021 Toyota Tacoma. What's really cool about this tonneau cover is that if you want something that doesn't cover your rear window or has Ttrack channels for ladder racks or other Ttrack accessories, this will work well with that. With the different options of tonneau covers out there, you got your soft tonneau covers, you've got your hard ones. Now a hard one is really nice because you do have that extra level of security. With soft covers, some people can just tear that open.

And, but with this one, you have a hard surface. Now this also locks and what's nice about that locking feature is that it opens, or unlocks, whether your tailgate is open or not. With other covers, because your lock is not here, you have to have the tailgate open in order to open it. But here, even with our tailgate closed and locked if this is unlocked, you can still push it back. So let's take a look at that.

Press that button and you have access to your truck bed without opening your tailgate. This does sit on top of your truck bed. So it's not as low profile as the others that install underneath your bed. So you do have a measurement of an inch and 1/4 above the side of your truck bed. On this side of your Retrax rails are these Ttracks, and these are used for your Ttrack accessories like your ladder racks, bike racks, or cargo baskets.

As you can see, with it completely closed, it rolls into its canister, leaving our entire rear window open which is awesome when you're driving around. Now, one thing about that is that does sit below, so you have about nine and 1/2 inches of space taken up from your top of your cover all the way to the bottom. So, one thing to keep in mind is that it does take up a little bit of your truck bed space, so if you have a smaller truck bed you do have a little less space. This is customfit for our Tacoma, So you can see how it takes advantage of the rail system that our Tacoma has. Now, please check our fit guide to make sure you get the best fit for your vehicle, because there are different clamping systems, or mounting systems, for different types of trucks.

But a cool feature is that this clamps down to your rails at really any point in your truck bed, allowing you full access to your truck bed. Now I do recommend locking it, though, in the open or closed position. With this canister style, you have sealed ball bearings that allow it to roll out or back in. And that's a nice feature compared to maybe hinges that could possibly rust. Also, this has a weight capacity of 500 pounds evenly distributed on top of the tonneau cover. As a customfit tonneau cover, it has a relatively easy install process. So let's take a look at that. Before installing your tonneau cover, you're first gonna need to set up your truck bed. Make sure it's all ready for that cover. We have a fivefoot bed here on our Toyota Tacoma, so I need to take off this cab header rail. We have some bolts here at the bottom to take it off and I'm gonna use a T30 bit just to loosen those bolts. And we also have to take off this tiedown and we're gonna use a T40 bolt for that. Once all your bolts are out, you can then take your cab header rail off. If you have these clamps or tie downs in your bed rails you're gonna have to take those off as well. And just make sure that everything is clear to put your tonneau cover on. You're gonna take off that rail so that you can add these foam pads on their end caps. So just take off that sticker on the end and then stick it onto that end cap, do it on both sides. Put them back into your truck bed and then use those bolts that you just took out and then tighten them in place. Make sure that each side has those foam pads and that they are sealed and flush against your truck bed. The first thing we need to do with a tonneau cover is to release it, and to do so, you're gonna need a screwdriver here, and then you are going to loosen these screws here on the end. So there's screws on each side. Make sure you loosen those. Once you have that screw removed that's holding onto that latch, you can then remove the latch and this releases the tube here. So we'll take that tube out. With the sticker out of the way you can then pull this out, and save this piece for later. Once you have it released, you are then gonna make sure that it's unlocked, so insert your key, turn it, and press that button right there. And that will release your lock and allow you to slide it out a little bit. To put the rails in, you're gonna have to slide it i
