Ryan: Hey, everybody. Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, we're going to be taking a look at and showing how to install the etrailer.com Class 3 2" trailer hitch receiver. One of my favorite things about this hitch is that, when you're not using it, you can actually put this cover back on and make it disappear. This is going to give you that peace of mind knowing that you're not going to have to sacrifice the look of your vehicle just to get the functionality out of your hitch. But when you do need it, you can simply remove it, and then you're going to be able to use it to tow trailers or use it for accessories like a bike rack or a cargo carrier. The hitch is going to give us some pretty good weight capacities. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating, that's going to be 5,000 pounds, the amount of weight's that's going to be pulling on our hitch.

So you're going to want to keep that number in mind, say if you're doing some light duty towing, maybe helping a friend move. The hitch is going to have a maximum tongue weight rating of 500 pounds. That's going to be the amount of weight pushing down on our hitch. You're going to want to keep that number in mind, say, if you and your friends load up a handful of bikes on a bike rack to go to hit the trails. Now the hitch can be used with a weight distribution system. That system allows the hitch to maximize its full potential. But it really just depends on what you plan on using the hitch for.

If you do use that system, the weight capacities do increase. The maximum tongue weight rating goes up to 600 pounds and the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes up to 6,000 pounds. But it is always a good idea to check with your Chevy's owner's manual to make sure you can pull that much weight. Now I'm going to give you a couple of measurements. These are going to help you when figuring out which hitchmounted accessories to use. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening is about 19".

You're going to use that measurement to figure out if you need to get a ball mount with either a drop or a rise. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of our rear bumper, that's about 51/2". You're going to use that measurement to figure out if any of your folding accessories you might have can be stored in the upright position without making contact with the bumper. Now some of our customers said, during the installation, they had some issues with the attachment points being rusty. Well during our installation video, I'll show you a trick to help you out with that if that happens to be your case. They also said that they really like how the hitch comes with everything needed to get the job completely done.Speaking of installation, let's go ahead and do it together.

To begin our installation, we're going to have to remove this bumper fascia panel. To do that, we're going to have two quarter turn fasteners. Turn it a quarter of the way and we can just simply pull down and set this off to the side for now. Now we're going to have to lower the exhaust, but before we do that, I'm going to use a strap and go from each side of the vehicle. That way, we can control how fast our exhaust will come down. We're going to have to remove three rubber isolator hangers. They're going to be here and here on each side of the muffler. If we go towards the front, there will also be one right here. Now before we pry them off, it does help out a lot if we spray them down with some type of lubricant just to help us get them off easier. To remove them, you can take a pry bar and pry them off just like that. Now I'm going to do that same procedure to the other two remaining. Now we can go ahead and loosen up our strap to let the exhaust come down. Now I'd just like to point out the attachment points that's going to hold our hitch into place. On each side of the frame rail there's going to be two threaded holes, here and here, and the exact same side up on the other side. In the center, there's going to be two more holes, one here and one there. Now it's a good idea to clean out our threaded holes. That way, our bolts will go in nice and smooth. To do that, I went ahead and put some penetrating oil into the holes. Now I'm going to use a tube brush to clean it out. If you need a tube brush, you can pick one up on etrailer.com.Now after you've cleaned out all the holes, it's a good idea to take one of the bolts that come included with the hitch and thread it in. It should go in nice and easy by hand. If it doesn't, what you're going to want to do is keep cleaning the threads out until that bolt does
