We think this young IP experienced an engine failure in a nosehigh attitude, then "snapped" the throttles to Idle causing the other (good) engine to roll back. This led to him having 2 "failed" engines, although they were still running. The EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures) never went to zero from their (the IP's and student's) statements. Then, down they went!
