Dressing for Cold Weather in Alaska

Dressing for Cold Weather in Alaska. In this video, I give tips about layering and give examples of what I wear in a few different cold weather scenarios. This is my second winter living in Fairbanks/North Pole, Alaska and before we moved I was totally clueless on how to properly dress for cold weather. I hope this basic info helps anyone visiting or moving from a warm climate to a cold climate.

*I should also mention, that I'm probably not going to be outside for an extended period of time (if I don't have to) at any temperature 15 F or below.

The Kavik brand makes heavy duty parkas. My white puffy parka is by Northface, the lighter one is Columbia. Boots are by Kamik and Baffin. The Smartwool brand has wool/synthetic blend socks, base layers, and neck warmers. The fingerless flip mittens are Smartwool brand. The fleece lined mittens are Gordini brand. The neck warmer is Turtlefur brand.

There are two stores in Fairbanks that I recommend: Prospectors https://www.prospectoroutfitters.com/ and Big Ray's https://www.bigrays.com/
You should also be able to find any of these items or something similar at REI or any other outdoor clothing store.
