After having two sump pumps fail on me within the last year, the possibility of basement flooding has been on my mind. Yes, I replaced the 2030 year old pumps with new ones which should last a good, long time. However, It was more dumb luck that I noticed the sumps weren't working, and I could have had a real basement flooding issue on my hands.

To mitigate the risk of another sump failure causing my basement to flood, I bought a couple sump pump failure alarms to install in my two sump basins. These are simple sensors with a float that detects a high water level and omits a piercing beep that should be audible in other parts of the house. The installation is pretty easy and can be done by any homeowner in under a half hour.
