Originally raised as a hunter of small animals just like rats and foxes, the Norfolk Terrier shares its origin with the Norwich Terrier. Their names are related to their hometown, the city of Norwich in the county of Norfolk, located just north of London. Recognized for many years by a single name, they were finally separated into two different breeds by the Kennel Club of England and later by the American Kennel Club due to the shape of their ears, straights and falls.

The Norfolk Terrier is known for been the smallest working terriers, standing no higher than 10 inches at the shoulder and weighing between 11 to 12 pounds. Strong, muscular and compact, this dog has expressive dropped ears, dark brown or black oval eyes and a hard coat, rough, short, ready, straight and completely attached to the body, with shades of red, black, fire, wheat or grayish.
