Represented in manuscripts from 1,000 years ago, the Irish Water Spaniel is one of the oldest and most distinctive water dogs. Direct descendant of the water dog of southern Ireland, also called McCarthy's Breed, the Irish Water was the third most used sports dog, becoming a fairly popular breed in America and Great Britain. However, despite his charming appearance and his playful and fun personality, this type of dog has lost popularity and is now rarely seen in canine competitions or as a family pet.

Powerful, but not too big, and known to be the highest breed of all Spaniels, the Irish Water Spaniel have a balanced body that can weigh between 55 and 65 pounds and measure between 22 and 24 inches. Grooming: Just like other breeds, the Irish Water Spaniel loses its hair periodically, for this reason, it’s important to brush his fur at least two or three times a week, to avoid knots. The rest is basic care; we need to keep their ears, nails and teeth clean and healthy.

Temperament: Stubborn and independent, but at the same time playful, cheerful and fun, the Irish Water Spaniel loves to do anything with taste and enthusiasm.
