We explore the question of whether Californians have an accent. Many people believe that California English is a distinct dialect with its own unique features, while others argue that the state's large and diverse population means there is no one "Californian accent." We take a closer look at the linguistic history of the Golden State and examine some of the linguistic traits commonly associated with Californian speech, from the use of "like" and "dude" to the socalled "Valley Girl" accent.
