DIY Small LAUNDRY ROOM Makeover: How To Make The Most Of Your Small Space

Follow
Its Worth It

This week we bring you a throwback project from when we remodeled the laundry room at our old house. Jeff is having major back issues and is completely out of commission so homestead projects are delayed. Enjoy this oldie but goodie project:) The laundry room offered nothing in the ways of storage or organization. The washer and dryer just sat on the floor. There was an awkward shelf and solo hanging rack on the opposite wall. It was sad, dark, and such a mess. We resented it every time we had to do laundry. The dryer duct ran through the wall straight into the garage. We had to run the duct under the kitchen through the floor joists and out the back of the house. We tore the shelf and closet rod down, and patched the walls. We put in a small platform and tiled it. This would prevent debris, dirt, paper, toys etc from being swept under our appliances. We built loads of drawers and cabinets from MDF and pine. Painted the walls light blue, and the ceiling white. Previously walls, trim, ceiling, and doors were all a dark depressing tan. 1/2 of the room became our laundry station and the other half a mudroom of sorts. Jeff and I and each kid got their own locker for jackets and backpacks. The kids lockers were separated by a metal mesh shelf and the doors featured a custom woven vent on the top that allowed for great ventilation. We were able to gain a spacious floor to ceiling broom closet that we used to store a vaccum, carpet shampooed, and brooms and mops! Seriously SO much storage. The 1/2” welded wire baskets under the bench were perfect for wet or muddy boots that would easily air dry, and dirt could fall through to the floor and easily be swept up. The baskets were also floor vent friendly as they were suspended and allowed for unobstructed air flow. The counter mounted over the appliances stopped at the cabinet face above it which gave us access to the plumbing and electrical lines but simply removing a drawer. Tons of tall overhead cabinets for those hard to store large items like mixers and crockpots. This remodel was a total transformation, total game changer, and TOTALLY worth it! Ingrid LOVED doing laundry in there❤

Feel free to watch as we continue to learn and experiment while we build our dream home mostly off grid in the middle of nowhere! There is sure to be more epic projects like this one if you stick around and watch:)
