French Drain for Do It Yourself Homeowners, How To Install a French Drain, By Apple Drains Drainage Contractors. Water pooling in low spot of Yard is solved by adding a French Drain (Gravel / Perforated Pipe) with Catch Basins. Also connected the front Downspout Drain and trenched to street.

Step 1 Trench / Dig / Excavate a line from the low spot to the street (or, your back yard if that is downhill from the area) Remove the soil and debris from the area that ge french drain will be install. Remember a French Drain is Perforrated pipe surround by gravel with the holes in the pipe pointing down.

Step 2 Install your Catch Baisns. Most catch basins are deeped than you trench , so be sure to dig out the aera before placing the basins.

Step 3 Attach the Downspout drain to Sold Pipe after the french drain. It will work better if the downspout drain has very good fall to the steet and not run through the gravel line. Although it will still work, it tends to slow down the system in a hard rain.

Step 4 Lay a base of gravel in the bottom of the trench where the french drain is going to be installed. Next lay your prforated pipe with holes pointing down in the trench and attach your catch basins.

Step 5 Cover the pipe with gravel leaving aout 2 to 4 inches for soil to be laid when its back filled.

Step 6 Attach Solid Pipe after the french drain Once you've caought all that water, you don't want to loose it, so Solid Pipe To the Street.

Step 7 Attach your downspout drain by running a 4" Solid pipe and using a Y or T to connect it to the pipe goind to the street.

Step 8 Cover the gravel with a Soil Seperated THIS is Actually Optional. The soil seperater doesn't do very much but it helps hold the top soil in place while your seed starts . Eventually the sod grows across the trnch and it will work for years and years. Contrary to popular belief, The Soil Seperater rreally doesn't do much except clog with dirt and mud. It slows the water flow. The system still has an average life of 15 years.

Step 9 Cover and ack fill the trench

Step 10 Add seed and your down.
