Dividing the Year - Solstices Equinoxes Cross-Quarters

Follow
Archaeoastronomy Database

This video details the patterns and complexities that arise in dividing the solar year and how ancient people may have set about doing so. This geocentric approach has important applications for archaeoastronomy especially in relation to how changes in orbital configuration have altered the situation over time. The video also looks at the temporal positioning of solstices within the year and compares the modern concept of equinoxes with finding a midpoint in time. Further subdivisions of the year such as crossquarter days or even 16ths of a year are also discussed.
