Dental Elevators
Elevators play a very important role for extraction of tooth
There are two instrument used in extraction: Forceps, Elevators
Elevators also known as Luxators
They may be used to loosen teeth prior to forcep extraction

Parts of elevators
Blade
Shank
Handle

Indications
1.) To loosen teeth prior to using forceps.
2.) Elevators are used to luxate and remove teeth which cannot be engaged or grasped by the beaks of forceps (e.g. impacted teeth, malposed teeth)
3.) badly carious teeth, teeth with heavy filling.
4.) To remove old roots and fractured roots
5.) To remove small amounts of bone to create point of application for the beaks of forceps, or removal of interseptal bone.

cross bar

Types of Blades
the straight type
the triangle or pennantshape type
the pick up type

Mechanical principles of use of elevators:
The work principles as applied to the use of elevators maybe that of:
1 Lever principle.
2 Wedge principle.
3 Wheel and axile principle.
