A Virginia county school board is reinstating Confederate names to two schools, reversing a decision made four years ago after the murder of George Floyd.

In a 51 vote, the Shenandoah County Public School board reversed a previous board's 2020 decision to change the names of schools linked to Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Turner Ashby, three men who led the proslavery Southern states during the Civil War.

The decision came after an hourslong meeting. More than 50 people opposed the reversal.

According to the Virginia Department of Education, more than 5,600 students attend Shenandoah County Public Schools. 75percent are white, 18percent are Hispanic, and 3percent are Black.
