Black panthers are not actually a species of big cat! What they usually tend to be are either black leopards or black jaguars!

This colouration occurs in about 10% of jaguars. They are the exact same species as golden jaguars, they just have a higher amount of melanin in their bodies! We have three beautiful black jaguars at The Big Cat Sanctuary Maya, Neron and Athena!
