Apes Like Us

Raising orphaned baby apes isn't a piece of cake! It involves long days in the hot, humid jungle, babysitting some rowdy little chimps as they get up to all kinds of mischief in their baby ape forest school sometimes for months on end! This job takes a great amount of patience and the right kind of person in this case, it's the two Chimp Daycare Dads Romain and Sanda of Ape Action Africa. Take a look at what it takes to be a goldstar Chimp Daycare Dad.

This segment was filmed at Mefou Primate Sanctuary in Cameroon run by GLOBIO Programs Partner Ape Action Africa. Visit https://bit.ly/ApeActionAfrica to learn more about their amazing work rescuing, saving, and caring for great apes and primates.

SPECIAL thanks to caregivers Romain and Sanda for their decades and dedications to caring for dozens of orphaned baby chimps.

All footage for this video was created before the Covid19 pandemic forced new health & safety protocols. All footage was obtained through reputable, ethicallyrun wildlife sanctuaries dedicated to caring for their rescued primates and protecting their wild counterparts. Apes Like Us (under GLOBIO) and our partner programs in no way support the exploitation or trade of primates in any capacity (whether legal or illegal).

The sanctuary caretakers shown in this video are experts at caring for these vulnerable, orphaned apes until they are strong enough to join larger primate families at these sanctuaries. Any human contact with these infants is for the babies' physical and mental benefit only.
