There are many species of Flathead. (Platycephalidae). Apparently 44 species are recognised in Australian waters. Flathead are attracted to other fish behaviour and can smell food from some distance away. They will wait buried in the sand to strike their prey or will just swim around and strike at smaller swimming fish . Like all animals in the seas food chain they need to be careful they don't become someones dinner.
