Independence Day is a day to celebrate freedom. For the residents of Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, today is celebrated as a day of freedom from lab testing and harm caused by humans. Though they can never be released into the wild, they are free to make their own decisions and develop their own life here.

The reality is that there are many chimpanzees in captivity who could never live a life in the wild.
