ch = chain
ch3 = 3 chain stitches previously made
dc = double crochet
post = the middle section or length of a stitch

Making the Crown (top of beanie)

ch 5, sl st into 1st ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1: ch 3, (working over yarn tail) 15 dc into ring, sl st into top of ch3. (16 sts)

Rnd 2: ch 3, * 2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next st, rep from * around to last st, 2 dc into last st, sl st into top of ch3. (24 sts)

Rnd 3: ch 3, * 2 dc into next st, 1 dc into each of next 2 sts, rep from * around to the last 2 sts, 2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next st, sl st into top of ch3. (32 sts)

Rnd 4: ch 3, * 2 dc into next st, 1 dc into each of next 3 sts, rep from * around to the last 3 sts, 2 dc into next st, 1 dc into each of next 2 sts, sl st into top of ch3. (40 sts)

Rnd 5: ch 3, * 2 dc into next st, 1 dc into each of next 4 sts, rep from * around to the last 4 sts, 2 dc into next st, 1 dc into each of the next 3 sts, sl st into top of ch3. (48 sts)

Making the Sides
