Our guest on this podcast first studied at Corvinus University in Budapest, where, as a student, he was taken under the wing of ethologist Vilmos Csányi. He founded a financial and economic research company, which produced economic and political forecasts for a total of thirtyfive countries. With his team, they predicted the 2008 financial crisis, but hardly anyone listened to them. For this reason, or for others, he went to Cambridge, where he studied biology, anthropology, and psychology. This led him to become an evolutionary behavior researcher, and nowadays, he is a fellow at Trinity College, Oxford University, studying evolutionarily inherited human behaviors.
And since he doesn't consider consciousness to be a precise concept, he believes that humans cannot consciously overcome their negative traits. Instead, he advocates for transforming our societies so that we can steer our civilization away from collapse. Of course, to make this a reality, we need a deeper understanding of our species. For example, he researches the origin of humans and how the genetic and cultural behavior patterns ingrained in us over millennia could be leveraged to address modern challenges. The fundamental question is: Should we create new humans? Is it even possible?
