Cracked tooth can be divided into the anterior cracks and the posterior cracks. In anterior cracks, in that again we divide the cracks into different categories wherein a small fracture of the enamel can be considered as the Class 1 fracture or the crack, Class 2 will be involving the enamel and the dentine, wherein the inner tissue, the pulp tissue is not exposed. Third one will be the Class 3, where the enamel, the dentine and the involvement of the pulp tissue of the tooth will be there.
Cracked tooth can be corrected by various means, but the basic thing is as soon as the crack happens or the fracture happens for the patient, or the tooth fractures, the patient has to visit the dentist as soon as possible so that the dentist can assist him by giving treatment plan and attending to the need immediately, because cracked tooth can clause lot of problems like infections and avulsions of the tooth, wherein the tooth may be lost very soon. For that reason he has to visit the dentist as soon as possible and to treat a cracked tooth or a fractured tooth, it all depends on what type of the crack is or the fracture is, so that the dentist will decide and then proper treatment plan will be given to the patient and then he can get the treatment done. The basic thing is usually the small cracks which can be filled with the tooth coloured materials like composites and it can be treated with veneer by putting on the tooth surface and it will look as natural as possible and we can put a crown on the tooth depending on the fracture size or the breakage of the tooth and if the involvement of the inner tissues of the tooth has happened, then dentist will recommend root canal therapy for that and later on the tooth will be crowned and capping will be done for that. So that’s how a cracked tooth can be treated.
