The only thing more ridiculous than what I propose for the Oakland A's is the idea that John Fisher can pay to get a new stadium built. Sure, he can secure partial public funds and release renderings, but he's suspiciously absent when it comes time to put up his share of the money.

If Fisher had half a billion dollars, he would have a new stadium by now. But doesn't so he doesn't. Thinking otherwise is simply a pipedream.

Speaking of pipedreams, I want to return to one I remember seeing somewhere a while back. The idea of the OaklandSacramento Athletics. At first, I thought it was funny and ridiculous. But the more I mulled it over, the more I believe it could actually work in keeping the A's in Northern California.

Disclaimer: This is not my idea. I don't remember where I saw itReddit, maybe in a comments section somewhere. But whoever mentioned the OaklandSacramento A's first deserves credit, so thank the person I don't know.

I won't pretend it's a likely solution. However, there is something here. And, at the very least, it is fun to think about. The concept of a team splitting itself between two cities is not new.

I'm not saying this is a probable scenario let alone a realistic one. However, if you mull it over, there are certainly some merits to a team playing in two cities, especially in MLB when you have such a large inventory of home dates.

The Touchback is the world's best sports and culture website…or something like that. You'll either really like it or really hate it. But it's worth reading either way.
