The Cosmic Ashtray (sometimes referred to as the Cosmic Navel) is a bucket list hike in the Grand Staircase Escalante National monument, but it's truly just one of dozens, if not hundreds, of stunningly scenic locations scattered over 1.87 million national monument acres in southern Utah. This is a fun hike and there are a couple ways to do it. If you're overlanding in a 4x4 high clearance vehicle, you can shave miles off the hiking trail. We use our trusty Toyota 4Runner (Great White) to get as close as possible to the location before setting out crosscountry on foot. We also visit Devil's Garden and take you down the Burr Trail and Burr Trail switchbacks for a scenic overview of the eastern edge of the Grand Staircase adjacent to Capitol Reef National Park.
