Complete VS Incomplete Sentences in English | 3 Ways to Identify and Correct Fragments

Follow
Sparkle English

Learn about complete vs incomplete sentences in this English grammar and writing lesson! I will teach you all about sentence fragments and how to correct them. There are three things you should look out for when determining if a sentence is complete. You must check for a subject and predicate and make sure the sentence is clear.

A sentence fragment is a piece of a sentence. It looks like a sentence but is missing something, like a subject, verb, or a main idea. You will learn how to find these fragments and how to fix them to make them complete sentences.

Examples of sentence fragments:
• Laughing loudly on the balcony. (This fragment is missing a subject.)
• The children in the park. (This fragment is missing a verb.)
• Although she wanted to come. (This is a dependent clause, which means the sentence cannot stand alone. It needs more information.)

At the end of this lesson, there will be a quiz where you must identify any sentence fragments.
