ABOUT CAANAN NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL

Canaan nursey and primary school is a community school found in Kasusu cell, Kasusu ward, Central
Division, Fort portal Tourism City, Western Uganda, East Africa.
It started in 2015 as a community School and it is in the process of registration for the second
Phase.

Canaan Nursery and Primary School is involved in offering quality and affordable education to the
community especially to vulnerable, orphans, disabled and less privileged children for equal
opportunities.
It started with four classes ie. Baby class, Middle class, Top class and Primary one and kept adding other
classes annually, currently we have up to Primary five class. The school has a capacity of 290 children.
178 girls and 112 Boys.

A welleducated and an illiteracy free community through education and co curricular activities
And a skilled community to enhance absolute decision making.
Mission
To strengthen and promote the level of education from the grass root level.

Objectives:

1 To provide quality and affordable education to the community especially to vulnerable, orphans,
disabled and less privileged children for equal opportunities in the society.
2 To educate the community and reduce the level of illiteracy through preparing the young generation
to be able to take on the mantle to contribute towards the development of their communities. .
3 To mitigate the number of children who leave home for the streets due to lack of basic
Education requirements, through affordable education.
4 To support school going orphans and other less privileged by providing them with scholastic materials
and bursaries/ sponsorship to enable them attain education for future selfreliant and job creators.
5 To promote pupils talents through cocurricular activities and exposing them to the outside learning
sites through internal debates and study tours.

Canaan nursery and primary school’s current project area.
1. We constructed two temporally classroom structures and managed to rent the land
Since inception in January 2015 as shown in the photos attached.
2. We have offered sponsorship to 45 orphaned and vulnerable pupils whose guardians and parents
cannot afford to pay any school dues.
3. We provide break tea to pupils whose parents cannot afford it on
a daily basis.
4. We fenced the school with the meager resources.
5. The School has connected safe and clean taped water.

Canaan nursery and primary school’s current future plans.
1 .We plan to buy school own land and construct permanent classrooms because landlords keep
increasing the ground rent every year.
2. .We plan to install electricity to the school to enable better leaning environment of
Pupils.
3. As we hope to enlarge the school, and more leaners anticipated, we intend to add
on the staff number and increase on their salaries and facilitation to ensure a good teacher
Learner interaction and intact supervision of pupils by teachers.
4. As time goes by we plan to buy a school van to help pupils who have been walking
Long distances for education.
Canaan nursery and primary school urgent Areas of need.
For 7years, the school was located on a rental land whose Landlord got challenges during the Covid19
lockdown and sold the land during the lockdown since schools were closed and we were not able to
keep paying the rent. In January 2022 we got another place which is new home for Canaan now.

Our current needs are to get funds to pay ground rent legally for 5years. This will cost us Three
Million Ugandan Shillings (2.600.000) annually equivalent to thirteen Million Ug. Shillings for five
years. (13.000.000) equivalent to Four thousand, two hundred and three Dollars. (4,203)$
Construction of the eating shelter for the children, Administration/ offices, staff room premises
since the offices are currently at the neighboring church. This will cost us five Million Ugandan
Shillings.

Any assistance given to Canaan Nursery and Primary school is indeed a great support to 290 pupils and
parents in our community that have depended on this school for affordable and supportive education.
