Unlike most people, Li Bingcai has no fear or loathing about cockroaches.
In fact, he has been breeding millions of the insects for his niche business providing cockroaches for human consumption.
Li says cockroaches can be cooked up for meals and even have health benefits, treating ailments such as sore throats, ulcers and gastric problems.
The farmer based in the city of Yibin in China’s southwestern province of Sichuan said dried cockroaches are even in demand from medicine factories.
Li says he has sold dehydrated roaches for around 90,000 yuan (US$13,500) per tonne.
