Another important locomotive range from the Modernisation Era, the Class 37s became very much the mixedtraffic backbone of British Railways throughout the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s, combining a compact bodyshell with a superbly powerful engine to create one of the most flexible machines ever to run on the UK network, as attested to by their continued use nearly 65 years after they entered the scene.
