The speed at which the weather in Fargo went from (badly needed) rain to sunshine really surprised me. So much so that I got halfway into my walk and had to shed a layer. But, that's what layers are for. In this walk we head south from Downtown Fargo to see some murals in allies, the other old train depot, setup in island park for an arts festival, a skate park, a levee, cross the Red River on a footbridge, and follow a pedestrian/bike path on the Minnesota side to the Hjemkomst Center with it's stave church and working viking longboat that has sailed to Norway. It's a great exploration of Fargo and a bit of Moorhead. Hope you enjoy it H

Fargo is a city in and the county seat of Cass County, North Dakota, United States. Being the most populous city in the state, it accounts for 16% of the state population. According to the 2020 United States Census estimates, its population was 125,209, making it the 222ndmost populous city in the United States. Fargo, along with its twin city of Moorhead, Minnesota, and the adjacent cities of West Fargo, North Dakota; and Dilworth, Minnesota; form the core of the FargoMoorhead, NDMN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The MSA had a population of 248,591 in 2020.

Fargo was founded in 1871 on the Red River of the North floodplain. It is a cultural, retail, health care, educational, and industrial center for southeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. North Dakota State University is located in the city.

Hjemkomst Center
The Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center, commonly known as the Hjemkomst Center, is a museum in Moorhead, Minnesota. Hjemkomst Center first opened in 1985 and serves as a home to Hjemkomst Viking Ship, Hopperstad Stave Church replica, quarterly museum exhibits, and county archives. In 2009, the Clay County Historical Society (which was founded in 1932) and the Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center merged to form the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County.
The Hopperstad Stave Church Replica is a replica of a Norwegian stave church located on the grounds of the Hjemkomst Center. The church was built in 1998 by Guy Paulson and was constructed of cedar, redwood, and pine. It is a fullscale replica of the 12th Century Hopperstad Stave Church in Vik, Norway. The church serves as a reminder of the Scandinavian heritage in the Red River Valley.
