China Jump: Important Footwork Technique in the rearcourt (Part #6)

Follow
Tobias Wadenka

Besides the Scissor Jump and Lunges China Jumps are the third very important footwork technique for badminton players. In this tutorial i will explain:
when and why you should use china jumps
how you can perform a china jump
what are important details for advanced players
how you can practice and improve your china jump technique

Summary

Here are the important keypoints for a efficient china jump, that I point out in the video:

1) Do not turn your hip and your feet during approach and jump
2) Bring you elbow behind you before the shot
3) Push out of the corner with your dominant leg right after the landing

Additional tipps

If you want to use the power of the body rotation from your scissor jump you have to hit the shuttle in front or above you. If it is too far beside you, you won't get any power from it and the rotation will cost you a lot of balance and get you in a bad position afterwards. That is also the reason why scissor jumps are usually performed in the middle of the court or the round the head corner because here you can hit the shuttle in front or above you. If you have a lot of time and can get under the shuttle on the forehand side it is also possible and can make sense to perform a scissor jump here, but usually you will perform mainly China Jumps on the forehand side.

If you are already an advanced player try to focus on the recovery and the landing. The right technique for recovery and landing always depends on your situation and you have to adjust your footposition according to that situation. I go in detail on this two aspects in the video.
