On the sidelines of the session, Chanda Mwale, the executive director of the Wildlife Producers Association Zambia (WPAZ), talked about some of the benefits of Zambia’s legal wild meat trade.

Wild meat is an important source of food for many communities, but must be managed sustainably. At the European Conference of Tropical Ecology hosted at the University of Lisbon, researchers from around the world gathered at the session “Towards sustainable, equitable and safe wildmeat use in Tropical and subtropical countries: opportunities, lessons learnt, obstacles and risks” on 14 February to discuss wild meat practices and what they mean for health, the environment, and communities.
