Excited or frightened by something, chameleons inflate, increasing in size.
chameleons can rotate their eyes independently of each other, and look simultaneously in two different directions. A chameleon's tongue can stretch to a length that exceeds the length of the body. When the chameleon "shoots" its tongue, it closes its eyes so that the fluttering prey cannot injure its eyes. The unique ability of the chameleon to mimicry allows it to change the color of its skin, merging with the surrounding space. A sleeping chameleon cannot control the color change. The word "chameleon" is translated from ancient Greek as "earth lion". The largest species of chameleons reach a length of 60 cm, the smallest about 23 cm. From the point of view of biology, chameleons belong to lizards.
There are about 160 species of chameleons, and almost half of them live on the island of Madagascar.
