In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Cesky Terriers that you might not know.

A Quick Overview:
Group: Terrier Dogs
Weight: 13 to 30 pounds
Height: 10 to 13 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 10 to 15 years

The result of a cross between a Scottish Terrier and a Sealyham Terrier — with the goal of creating a dog that could go after vermin without getting stuck in their dens — the Cesky (pronounced chesskey) was created in 1948 in what was then Czechoslovakia.

The Cesky Terrier is a wellmuscled, shortlegged, wellpigmented, hunting terrier of a rectangular format. The Cesky has natural drop ears, a natural tail, and sports a long, silky with slight texture coat in shades of gray from charcoal to platinum (blackpigmented) or rarely brown (liver pigmented). The Cesky is longer than it is tall and has a topline that rises slightly to the rear.

Mellower than most terriers, the Cesky needs moderate amounts of exercise. And unlike many terriers, he has the advantage of a soft coat that can be trimmed with clippers rather than requiring handstripping (plucking dead hairs by hand). Loving and devoted, he's also active enough to compete in earth dog trials, agility, obedience, and tracking. Cesky is also a successful therapy dog. He gets along well with children and other pets, especially if he's raised with them.
