The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has expressed concern over Toronto chief of police Myron Demkiw's remarks on the Umar Zameer verdict.
Zameer was found not guilty of all charges in the death of detective constable Jeffrey Northrup in July of 2021. The CCLA says they are particularly concerned about Demkiw's comments saying "he shared the feeling of our members who were hoping for a different outcome." Demkiw later clarified his comments, noting he supported and accepted the jury's verdict.
