* POTTY TRAINING * Our puppies are potty trained as of their current age of 7 weeks. We do this by beginning the process when they are only a few days old. At that point, they are eliminating waste by way of their mother's stimulation. When they are about a week old, we begin having Mom "potty them" over the pine that we intend to use for them to potty and poop. This way, they begin associating the scent with the sensation of eliminating waste. As their eyes and ears open, then they begin taking in the visual and audial aspects of these exercises. As Mom discontinues stimulating them to void in an effort to encourage them to do it on their own, they then go in the provided pine. This further solidifies the attachment that "waste goes in pine." We do several exercises throughout the day to help teach this further, and as the puppies grow and are moved out of their newborn pen, they learn to seek out the pine for pottying and pooping. What is amazing about this process is that since it is done so early, they are prevented from learning a lot of unwanted habits. By six weeks, it has become ingrained enough that they begin to dislike pottying or pooping on surfaces that are unlike the pine. This is another big advantage to the way we potty train our pups they do not like pottying on your carpet! Since we intervene so early, they have never become comfortable pottying on surfaces like hardwood, tile, or carpet. When we bring them out to the living room to play, we know when they have to potty because they begin running out of the living room and back to the foyer, where their "potty pan" is. They each know what "Go Potty" means. The natural scent and feel of pine make it is easy to crosstrain pottying outdoors. It only takes 1 or 2 "atta boys" when pottying outside and they quickly learn that "Oh! I can potty here too!" With the nice weather lately, we've been taking these puppies outside and helping them learn that pottying and pooping in the grass is great!

* LOCATION * The puppies are now in their final pen location, although we will expand it up to 3x its current size. They are in the centralmost point of our home. This location is in our foyer, which is adjacent to our living room, dining room, and kitchen. It is also at the bottom of the stairs leading upstairs, and at the top of the staircase leading downstairs. They are new to this location, and it has taken time to work their way to this spot, but it has a very specific purpose. This location sees the most foot traffic in our home. It hears all the commotion and sees the most business. We want to prepare our puppies for going home to their families who likely make noise in their home. We want to do every little thing we can that will make the transition as smooth as possible and helping them adjust to these noises makes a big difference. When they are first whelped, they are in our bedroom which is kept dark and quiet. We keep them in there until their eyes and ears have been open for a few days, so that they can adjust to them while remaining in the dark and quiet. After adjusting to their new vision and hearing, we move them out to a corner in our dining room. This way, they are exposed to the light and the noise, but they are wellhidden behind the dining room table and have the security of the tall dining room furniture around them. This way, they are able to look around and explore without feeling afraid of these new experiences. After a couple weeks of adjustment, we then move them to their final location on the other side of the dining room table, into the foyer of our home.

* ADOPTION * All of these puppies have wonderful, loving families. We are, however, anticipating 2 litters midSeptember. If you are interested in adopting a puppy from us, please visit our website and fill out the "Add Me to Notify" form at the bottom of our 'Upcoming Litters' page (it's at the very bottom highlighted in red). While visiting, check out the gallery and testimonials from other Red Barn families and learn why families travel across the country to bring home a puppy from Red Barn Cavaliers! https://www.redbarncavaliers.com'>https://www.redbarncavaliers.com

* AUDIO * We turn on the microphone when puppies are awake or when we wake them to do something like eat or see their mom. If the audio is off, please be patient we will turn it back on! If they are asleep, check back in 30 minutes and we might have them up doing something or they may have woken up to play. We try to run the live feed every day until at least 10:00PM EST/9:00PM CST. If we take the puppies outside or on some type of "field trip" from their pen (which we begin doing more of at this age) during this time, we will let you know when to expect them back.
