Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed history

Roswell Eldridge was a key figure in the revival of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed in the early 20th century. He was particularly fond of the longnosed, "blenheim" type of King Charles Spaniel that was depicted in paintings of King Charles II and his court. In 1926, Eldridge offered two cash prizes at Crufts dog show in England for the best "blenheim" King Charles Spaniels. This helped to raise awareness of the breed and encourage breeders to focus on producing dogs that resembled the original type.
