Cat weighin as a fun game makes vet visits low stress. Practice “go to mat” & “touch target” at home. Do this in various locations, including the veterinary hospital without an examination. Key is finding something rewarding or reinforcing that your cat greatly enjoys. Easiest is often a favorite food, but petting, brushing, or play may be more rewarding for your cat. I offered Mallory food on the scale to encourage movement onto or duration on the scale. Whereas offering Mallory food off the scale allowed me to zero the scale.

Training is not your thing? Placing high value treats on a mat on the scale can reduce anxiety for your cat during veterinary appointments. A nonslip mat helps your cat feel more sure footed. Having a mat from home with the cat’s scent and a sprits of Feliway has a calming affect.
