Cat flu, or feline influenza, is a common illness in cats that affects their nose, mouth, and throat.

It can be pretty nasty, especially for kittens, elderly cats, or those with weaker immune systems.

Symptoms include a runny nose, gunky eyes, fever, sneezing, tiredness, and not wanting to eat.

In severe cases, cats can get ulcers in their eyes, mouth, and throat.

If you notice any of these signs, it's best to ring your vet for advice, no matter how mild.

Kittens struggle with cat flu because their immune systems aren't fully developed yet.

They might get ulcers, lung infections, and have trouble breathing.

Most cat flu cases are caused by feline herpesvirus and feline calicivirus.

These are super contagious and can spread through direct contact like sneezing, grooming, or even sharing food bowls and toys."

If your cat catches the flu, keep them warm and comfy.

Make sure they eat and drink, and keep their eyes clean.

Your vet might help them eat and drink if they're not able to.

There's no cure for cat flu, but your cat will get help to feel better and fight off the infection.

Thankfully there is a vaccine.

It won't make your cat totally immune, but it can make symptoms milder if they do catch it.

Keeping up with vaccinations is a big part of keeping your cat healthy.

And don't worry, you can't catch cat flu from your cat. It's a different kind of virus from human flu.

Most cats recover from cat flu just fine, but it's always better to be safe and check with your vet.

That way, you can make sure your cat stays happy and healthy
