Carlisle castle was built over the ruins of an ancient roman fort, near the border of England and Scotland, and is one of the most besieged locations in Britain. The castle’s location has thousands of years of history, including the captivity of Mary, Queen of Scots, dark age chronicles of King Arthur and Merlin, Robert the Bruce and start of the Scottish Wars of Independence, the Wars of the Roses, Jacobite uprising, and songs of the border reivers, famous for raiding the borderlands.
