I’m realizing that I forgot to mention is that your wash water needs to be HOT. My tap/ water heater is set very high as we don’t have children or anything. You might need to supplement yours with water you heated on the stove. Also if you are washing a large quantity it might be best to not let the dirty wash water go down the drain, I’ve never had an issue with that myself but have seen other people say that it could damage your plumbing.
