Antique Sprinklers

In the late 1930's William Buckner patented a method for controlling the rotation speed of an impact sprinkler. The sprinkler in today's video, a Buckner 1878 Jr. 1" dual action wedge drive impact sprinkler, dates to the period between the patent application date and the date is was granted, allowing us to lock it in time between December 28, 1937 and May 30, 1939. This was very early in the era of impact sprinklers as Orton Englehart's patent for such a device had just been granted April 16, 1935.

I show the Buckner patent in the video to provide better insight into the speed control mechanism. With a sprinkler this old, and this rare, I never want to risk damaging it by disassembly. I'd recommend looking up the patent (2,160,121) to get a better understanding how, exactly, the speed control worked.

I hope you enjoy this video and take a moment to give it a thumb's up. That's the way it's chosen to be shown to more folks interested in this topic.
