Parole officer Donald (Robert Christian) compels his foulmouthed excon charge Joe Braxton (Richard Pryor) to escort a bus full of special education students from Philadelphia to the Pacific Northwest, where their teacher Vivian Perry (Cicely Tyson) plans to set up a new school.
