Building a Wooden Deep V Skiff

This video covers the steps involved, issues encountered, successes and failures, tips and tricks in building a Wooden 14'6" Deep V Skiff.

Based on a Charles Wittholz design, "Little Moby". Many custom additions and changes were made to the original plans including reducing the swoop of the sheer line, modifying the rear seating and engine well, the addition of an anchor well, side console, seats, marine carpeted floors and a raised forward floor and stowage locker.

I chose this boat for the hull's seaworthy characteristics. Based in Auckland, New Zealand we're subject to changeable and sometimes unpredictable weather, and a mean southwesterly chop out on the Hauraki Gulf.

The build took a little over 12 months and involved around 1200 hrs from plans to water.

She's powered by a Mercury 40 HP 4 stroke outboard and has been praised by skippers with more experience than I as a stable and solid little boat.

Plans were obtained from Woodenboat.com
