Having a solid crate that is properly packaged is one of the most important things you can do to protect your stuff during transit. Check out Josh as he builds a custom shipping crate for a customer that ships in/out of trade shows. Josh starts with a skid as the base, which insures that is can easily be moved by a forklift, then builds the frame with 2x4s on top of it. He used  1/2 inch plywood for the walls and the top. Inside the crate he built compartments so some pieces would not have to be laid flat inside the crate . Both side panels are completely removable for easy loading on both sides, and Josh added a spot for important paperwork to be attached.
