As is clear from the name of the breed, its homeland is the USA. The history of the American Curl dates back to 1981 in Lakewood, California. The local inhabitants named Ruga found a black kitten with unusual ears. It was a girl she was called Sulamith. Six months later, in her first litter of 4 kittens, two were born with the same wrapped ears.
Since 1983, the selection of a unique gene began to engage professional breeders. The breed was even interested in the famous English felinologistgeneticist Roy Robinson. He studied 383 kittens from 81 litters and confirmed that the gene of twisted ears is unique. Something the breed is similar to the Siberian breed of cats.

The American Curl is a curious, eccentric and loving friend. Every day for this cat a new joy, new challenges and adventures. They are very attached to a person and constantly require your attention and participation in their affairs. These cats constantly want to be next to the owner: to sleep in his bed, sit on his hands or warm his neck.
Cats of the American Curl breed adore children. Even adult cats often remain as playful as small kittens. They also get along well with other animals.
These cats are balanced and intelligent. In a foreign territory, they will behave carefully and accurately, even respectfully.
