Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a brilliant festive season. This video is the first in a new series called Braid of the Month, where I will take you through a new braid each month and show you step by step how to turn it into a beautiful collar.

Measurements and Materials:

Firstly, measure your pet's neck, then add 1.5" on (1" for cat collars or collars made with thinner cord).
This braid requires 1 foot of cord for every 1 inch of collar. Eg: a 10" collar will need 10 feet of cord. For two colours, half this measurement (5 feet of each colour).

Buckles: I usually use 20mm because of Poirot's size. The size of buckle you use will depend on your dog. For small dogs I would recommend ~15mm wide, medium dogs ~20mm, and large dogs ~25mm, but it is entirely dependent on your preference and breed.

Paracord: I use 550 paracord/Type 3. This is about 4mm wide. You can use thinner cord if you want. I recommend thinner cord for small buckles. The internet will guide you through the world of paracord sizes!
