How We Landscape

Final Stage of a block paved driveway.

The key is to top up the subbase with MOT type 1 to use a minimal sharp sand or crush stone bed. Two differnt size of compaction plate were used for the base and for the finishishing stage. The technique of screeding rails and bars to get the levels ready for laying. The bars are set 35mm proud of the required finish height of the sand/grit bed. This height depends on the exact depth of sand, the grit content, the amount of times it is compact (aim for twice so not too many), the size block to be laid and whether or not the jointing material is applied before of after final compaction. A small area of blocks can be laid and compact down to check they are sitting at the correct finish height before proceeding to screed the rest of the driveway. Receseed manholes are marked out and then cut in.

The compound blocks are 'Drivesys Riven Basalt' from Marshalls. (a hybrid concrete block designed for a resin joint)
The Kiln Dried blocks at the end are 'Woburn Rumbled Graphite' from Bradstone
