Blanket Chest - Focus on handcut dovetails

Follow
James R Vander Schaaf

A much better (easier and more accurate) method of cutting dovetails by hand. I learned this method from Rob Cosman a great Canadian woodworker who makes his own equipment.

The method takes advantage of saw cuts on the tail board to accurately mark where to cut on the pin board. Conventional methods rely on knife or pen/pencil marks, rather than exact marks of where to cut. Learn this method and you will be delighted at your results.

Key to learning is to practice cutting with repeatability (saw must be perpendicular to the board for all cuts).

Handcut dovetails are clearly distinguished from machine cut dovetails primarily from the narrower and more attractive pins.

Please comment or ask questions about this method.

Thanks!
