So, we've arrived to our last stop of our trip, Hotel do Ypê, lower altitude Itatiaia NP situated in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
This was a lovely place to stay for a few nights, location was stunning, food excellent and on top of all that they had feeders! Both sugar for hummers and fruit for tanagers. That made my work to get all seen hummers on pixels a bit easier! Since there were 7 new hummers around, those feeders was a blessing. I had a decent chanse to succeed in that endeavour, despite my lack of a decent camera... Those hummingbird species were: Frilled Coquette, Versicolored Emerald, Violetcapped Woodnymph, Black Jacobin, Brazilian Ruby, Whitebellied Hummingbird and Scalethroated Hermit.
The hotel was situated on a steep ridge, below grew a few trees which canopy were almost at eye level. There were also a few dead trees, with the top of their snags were at, or slightly lower than, eye level. These were popular resting/viewing spots for birds traversing the valley. Very good for exercising my digiscoping. Birds digiscoped: House Wren, Rufouscollared Sparrow, Picazuro Pigeon, Plumbeous Pigeon, Scalyheaded Parrot, Longtailed Tyrant, Great Kiskadee, Blacktailed Tityra, Whitespotted Woodpecker, Cliff Flycatcher, Tropical Flycatcher, Southern Roughwinged Swallow, Goldenchevroned Tanager and East Brazilian Pygmy Owl. I also tried digiscoping on Black Jacobin, Versicolored Emerald, Brazilian Ruby and the Frilled Coquette, with varying results. I had a good time at Hotel do Ypê, that's for sure. I missed my crushed Canon 10D, of course, but I tried to get over it. At least for a few moments at a time.
The hotel area was home to at least a pair of quite tame Duskylegged Guan, which I managed to get a nice photo of, without any digiscoping involved... A Saffron Toucanet, visiting the fruit feeders, escaped my Coolpix, such is life. The one that was close enough was severely picked upon by its peers (mate?) and had a bald head. I wasn't in the mood photographing it, and hoped its partner would give me an opportunity. Nope. Didn't happen. Serves me right, I suppose. I've added my friend Rolf's photo of it, inserted on the photo I took of him and a few others photographing it.
On Nov 1 it was time to say goodbye to Hotel do Ypê, Itatiaia NP and Brazil. We had a long drive to Sao Paolo, from where we had a late flight home.
