Hello sweet friends,

Today I am taking you one of my favorite new walks around Berlin to Rummelsburger Bucht. I cannot believe I have never been here for a long walk!!

The Rummelsburger See is a bay on the Spree that borders the districts of FriedrichshainKreuzberg and Lichtenberg. The lake and its surroundings serve as a recreational area for visitors to stroll and sunbathe. The Paul und Paula Ufer is very popular. It was named after the film "The Legend of Paul and Paula" because it was used as a location for some scenes in 1973. On the west bank of the Rummelsburger See there is a youth recreational ship called Freibeuter.

The water quality of the Rummelsburger See is not particularly high. For this reason, swimming in the bay is prohibited. Partial renovations that have taken place since 1999 have now improved the situation. The decision to lift the bathing ban is still pending.

The Rummelsburger See is 1.6 kilometers long. It is located between the districts of Stralau and Rummelsburg. In the water there are the two small islands Kratzbruch and Liebesinsel, which are under nature protection.

We saw plenty of people sitting in the sun, as temperatures are rising, some were ice swimming (why!?) and we even befriended some cats who seem to live on the boats in the bay.
