Bowmar Professor in Humanistic Studies in the Departments of History and Classics, Strauss also profiles influential women—including Augustus’s wife Livia and Constantine’s mother Helena—while tracking dramatic shifts in geographical boundary, religion, ethnicity, and culture of the Roman Empire during its 350year lifespan.
