In the spring of 2008, Mattel released two Barbie® ColorChange Mermaid Dolls that came with a colorchange wand applicator and comb that hides inside their tale. Many fans speculated that Mattel took inspiration from these mermaid dolls when creating the CGI characters of Coral and Anemone for the movie due to their strong similarities! It is very possible that Mattel took some liberties when designing these CGI characters, as this has happened in the past with other previous Barbie® movies.
